too late now
to offer thanks
or speak of love

their final image
has already begun to fade
into the passing generations

arms raised hands joined
they stand framed
against the vanishing perspective
of transmitted life
and sign acknowledgment
of their place
in the sequence of time

there are no greetings
from the parents
who have gone before
...just farewell..
